As this Western Cottonmouth gets older it's coloration will become darker and it will loose the sulphur color of its tail tip. At this stage in its life the are sometimes confused with a copperhead. They are also known as: Cottonmouth, Water Moccasin, Black Moccasin, Blunt-tail Moccasin, Stump-tail Water Moccasin, Viper, Cotton-mouthed Snake, Congo Snake, Trap-jaw, or Gapper.
